Serbia and Macedonia to join Transit Regime

Before the end of 2015 the Republic of Serbia and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia will also join the NCTS Convention for Common Transit.

The common transit procedure is used for the movement of goods between the 28 EU Member States, the EFTA countries (Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland) and Turkey (since 1st December 2012). The procedure is based on the Convention of 20 May 1987 on a common transit procedure.

On 25th January 2015 Serbia fully started the national NCTS for all transit operations, including transport by rail, TIR and ATA. Their objective is to join the NCTS Convention for Common Transit on 1st October 2015, but for the Commission there are still some discrepancies in the process and they think that Serbia will join on 1st November 2015.

In February 2015 the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia completed the Pre-conformance Testing phase and they expect to join the NCTS Convention for Common Transit on 1st July 2015.
